Truckie Rooster by shareese
My husband and I, after years of talking about it, finally sold up and moved to the country. We did the usual country thing and decided to get ourselves some chickens. My husband said the best place to go would be the auctions, so off he goes with strict instructions not to bring any roosters home. After living on a main street in Auckland with non-stop traffic for twenty years the last thing I wanted was a rooster waking me up at 4.am. What hubby didn't realise was at the auctions the chickens come in pairs, breeding pairs that is.
He thought he had done well with his bidding on three chickens, when he went to claim his chickens they were accompanied by three roosters. He very quickly realised to bring them home would not be a wise choice, but he had to take them as he had bought them.
Hubby called into his mate's yard and was explaining the situation to his mate that if he took the roosters home it could mean divorce. Being a good mate he says "Just leave them here, it's a big yard and there is plenty of food for them, that way at least you won't get throttled when you get home." "Ah saved!" thinks hubby and he lets roosters out of the truck. They were quite happy with their new surroundings so hubby happily headed home.
Hearing our truck coming up the road I go outside to greet hubby, he gets out of the truck only to have
me say"Whose rooster is that??" Hubby comes around to the side of the truck and is face to face with a strutting rooster.
. After much deliberation we worked it out that the rooster had ridden all the way from Whangarei to our place approximately 35kms away under the truck, and was not at all frazzled about it. We still have a good laugh about it. Oh, by the way, after two months? ?the rooster waking me up at 4am it came down to the rooster or me. I'm still here!
