orbital speed how is it calculated
« on: August 26, 2005, 09:13:40 PM »
I have often seen massive series of calculations on astronomical problems
what is the basic formula for determining the orbital speed of a satelite.
assuming gravity is constant  at all distances .
anyone got a simple explanation
you can try  the impossible now  but miracles take a little longer

Yep.  :-D
Unfortunately, it's not me...
But there was this feller called Newton...  :-)
http://www.glenbrook.k12.il.us/gbssci/phys/Class/circles/u6l4c.html will give you the simple variations for a satellite in a circular orbit...

No worries,
if I'd been home, I could have just picked the textbook off the shelf (I can never remember exact formulae - dysgraphia)
 :-)
