newbies are only alowed to use it once to stop spammers poluting the system.

Yes what piersdad means is that "Readers" or newbie's (less than 25 posts ) have had personal messages disabled to keep discourage spammers which in the past has been a problem here on storydad as security by way of permissions was a little lax.
A few spammers joined the board and managed to send all members a pm which was undesirable for everybody.
So if someone has to make 15 posts before using the PM system I believe through that effort alone we will curb the abuse of the PM system.
There should really be no reason to use the pm system especially to advertise sites as storydad allows links back to your site within your siggy and within posts as long as they are within the context of the post.
Storydad also has a top site page where members can display their sites banner and other members can rate these links.

I understand now and that makes a lot of sense. I will be using this system at my forum.
