The $10.000 snapper
Years ago a friend was building a Ferro cement fishing boat. I helped him with the electrical wiring
Every cabin and crawl space had some sort of light and fitting even the bunks had lights
A labor of love with no effort spared
The launching date was set but the transporter would not fit so delays
The second transporter arrived and the 40 foot boat traveled to its destination alas the boat was now too high for the overhead wires and every crossing for the 30 miles of highway had to stop and maneuver the wires over the boat.
At the slipway the crane would not lift the boat off the transporter so delay for the next day.
THAT was Friday the 13th ok bad luck got us to here but its was just another day
Launched the boat on Friday and all went well
The first fishing trip was a poor catch with just a 100 lbs of snapper
Owner and I shared 4 snapper between us and sold the rest
The next fishing trip was a disaster as the boat hit a rock at a low spring tide that no other boat had hit in this oft used channel as they probably not so big and not sailing over it on low spring tide
So it sank and after tremendous effort it was floated again after 3 months salvage and was carefully tied up at the wharf
Some how the mooring lines got snagged and the boat was held down under the wharf during a high spring tide
Again the boat sank and a costly refloat and eventual abandonment
So 4 snapper return from $40.000 worth of investment
A $10.000 snapper anyone (btw it tasted really good)
