Cats and other pets(lets talk about them)
« on: August 23, 2005, 10:10:28 AM »
Fish?n?Chips. Yummmmm?

We only do it about once a fortnight because we are trying to eat healthier foods. Me, the two boys, and the girl. Even though the boys are teens, they still see it as a treat, and enjoy their meal quietly. But the girl is a moaner and a complainer. She starts the moment the package is brought into the house and doesn?t let up till the plates are in the sink, and the wrapping on the fire.

She is never satisfied, and always thinks her serving should be bigger than it is. She is so ungrateful; I wonder why I even bother! She eats the chips reluctantly, preferring the fish, unusual for a six-year-old. The sound drives me mad sometimes, having to sit through a meal listening to that constant complaining drone of ?more, more, more.?

But that is nothing to the eating and swallowing sounds. It is so unlady-like. Why won?t she just chew it a little more? Then she wouldn?t have an upset stomach so often. She doesn?t eat so much as inhales her food. Disgusting!!! I know it is her favourite meal, but really! Try as hard as I do, she just won?t be told.

When the meal is over, she just stomps away in a huff without so much as a thank you. It is the only mealtime where she behaves that way, as though she is some sort of a fish addict in need of more of a fix. But if I do it more than once a fortnight it wouldn?t really be a treat, would it?

She is nothing if not predictable though. It is always the same after fish?n?chip night. She is always back within six or seven minutes with wet feet and dropping a live thrashing trout on the floor. She?s been down to the stream again for seconds. That darn cat!!

Our little girls get fish every other day! I often tell them that they eat better than I do... it doesn't stop them from wanting to know what I'm having for dinner...
Tasha (a little black duchess) is very proper, and just sits there with the biggest eyes, waiting for a treat... especially if it's a prawn or a bit of chicken...
Alabaster (or Alley Cat to those who know her) is a beautiful white tomboy, who will mug you if you don't offer her something fast enough

Tell me, should this thread be about 'fish and chips', or should it be about cats...? cos it's real easy for me to talk about cats... except that right now, Tasha has lap-napped me (she does this a lot when I sit down at the computer) and she complains when my typing disturbs her sleep... :-D
Ali doesn't lap-nap me very often, but on cold nights, she curls up around my head like a nightcap, and purrs in my ear ... as a kitten, she discovered my left earlobe was an excellent pacifier... nowadays, she tries to recapture that experience, but she's forgotten how to suckle... so my earlobe gets a couple of purry licks, then she drifts off to sleep...  until about 4am when she's 'bored, Dad!' and wants to play Newton and Galileo with anything small and noisy and potentially breakable from above 1.2 metres elevation...  :|
And while we're on about cats, should I post cat pics via the ImageShack thingy below...?
And what is the recommended file size?  :-)

if i mentioned cats it would spoil the ending of the story
but about cats ok
my cat called sooty caught a mouse and was determined to ward off anyone going near him.

Meet 'Nol Tashne Edu'  :-) ...
affectionately known as Tasha to staff and visitors ...
the smallest member of the household ...
she rules with an iron paw ... :hail:
which mostly means that she sleeps...
wherever she chooses  :-) ...
and she often chooses the middle of the bed ...  :-)
and at least 40% of the rest of it...  :|
... during the day, it is often on my study chair ...
usually when I'm sitting in it ...
so I end up being lap-napped ...  :-D
... this kind of restricts my options somewhat ...  :|
her purr is a breathy whisper;
she only speaks when she is annoyed about something ...
usually about me disturbing her nap ...
and then with a rising trill,
like a little kid's "awww!" when being told 'no'
to that extra piece of chocolate...
I brave the wrath of the iron paw,
talons extended and a firm push back into my place ...
and then she wants her jaw and neck scratched ...
a couple of seconds of impromptu acupuncture ...
and she's asleep again ...
with the tip of her tail twitching,
so I'll know she's listening to every sound!  :-)
Having caught and dispatched her mouse  :-P,
the little black hunter likes to wash
the iron paw...
so that it is ready
for her next victim...

We have a fridge magnet that reminds us of that very truth... :-D
I have no problem about concepts dealing with 'matter/antimatter' ... because our household includes 'cat/anticat'... :-)
Meet Alabaster or Ali or Alley Cat...

Everything that Tasha is... Ali isn't...
Tasha black... Ali white...
Tasha reserved and ladylike... Ali loud and tomboyish...
Ali's purr is like a two-stroke motor that needs constant revving to keep it going... and is only distinguishable from her snore (when she snores) because the snore is not continuous...
Tasha prefers to curl up on her own (except when lap-napping me) and be undisturbed...
Ali likes to play with everything, and go for drives (she loves cars!)... Ali is the only cat I know who is not frightened by a running vacuum cleaner...
Tasha small (and adopted from the poorer suburbs)... Ali big (and bought with a pedigree)...
Tasha polite and hopeful for a treat... Ali climbs over any obstacle and just dives in...
Tasha likes to stay clean and dry... Ali loves grease and mud and rain... she's the only cat I know who wants to go outside in a storm...
Tasha likes a clean and tidy house... Ali likes to test Newton's theory of gravity... usually at 4 in the morning...
Tasha prefers quiet music... Ali loves action movies...
Tasha aviods dogs... Ali wants to adopt them...
About the only things they agree upon are "the big guy is okay to sleep on", "mice are fun", "chocolate is worth hanging around for, even if it's only a tiny bit"

years ago i was building my beach house and that afternoon went to the beach and got a bucket full of shelfish.
tea time and i boiled them all up and started to eat.
neighbours cat appeared at the door and demanded a share.
? So for the rest of the meal it was one for me one for the cat and although i had bread an butter as well i was full and the cat was sniffing the empty pot.
that cat waddled home and she was so full that she looked pregnant

One day i found i had a mice invasion and brought a5 way trap to catch them with
this trap had 5 holes in a sort of box and the 5 traps would quietly strangle any mouse that poked its head inside the holes.
Well in the morning there were 5 dead mice and as i was about to dispose of them the neigbours cat turned up.
? I threw one mouse at it and it picked it up and started to take it home to show the neighbour i called it back and gave it another and she re adjusted her grip to take 2 mice in ine mouth full.
In the end she took all the mice home and deposited them on neighbours door step and demanded a reward.
That day the neigbour told me in an incredulous voice that her cat had caught 5 mice that morning.

In the early 1990s, I was living in a little ex-mining town in the Adelaide Hills... one day a half-grown cat just wandered into the back yard and made itself at home ... it had lost one eye, and feeling sorry for it, I gave it some food and drink ... the young cat (male, I think?) took to sleeping under the rainwater tank stand, and would do the rounds of the garden with me ... he learned quickly not to bother the chickens... one evening, there was a huge ruckus just outside the back door, and I went to see what was going on... I looked down from the balcony and there, just outside the tank stand, was this young half grown one-eyed cat, all four paws outstretched and rigid, and a rat almost equal in size, falling limp and held head-first in the little cat's jaws ... "you've just earned your keep", I said to him...  :-D

used to live near a farm and there were the odd rabit on the fields

one day a friend visiting me was idly looking out the door as he talked to me and suddenly he stopped in mid conversation and exclaimed "what on earth"
and looked out side to see the  cat with a dead 1/2 grown rabbit in its mouth.
he said he thought the cat had caught the most hugmoungous rat he had ever seen

It gets pretty hot here in summer ...
and the girls can only remove their fur coats a little bit at a time
(mostly on my clothes, and on the upholstery...)
so, on really hot days, the girls like to have a cool (but not cold) shower...

...might need to be a bit careful with the double intendres

...wouldn't want to have your son telling you to tell you off for 'inappropriate' postings (there might be minors present...)

which is why I can't tell you how Megan describes the sight of me lying in bed with one cat wrapped around my head like a nightcap,
and the other on my tummy or against my thigh like a hot water bottle...
