Mechanical operated disc brakes
With the advent of faster mobility scooters, personal light weight electric vehicles and the popularity of mountain bike all will benefit from a superior type of simple mechanical cable operated brakes.
So with out searching the net to get any preconceived ideas I started to make prototypes and the first 6 all showed various problems of leverage , pressure, size etc.
A search of the net showed many were over complicated over engineered and some so complicated that if they were dismantled by an amateur person they may never get them back together again.
So prototype no 7 started to show promise and suddenly I found and ideal solution that may take several prototypes to develop.
Basically it has an automatically wear adjusted brake.
When the brake wears the operating handle will get closer to the end limit.
If it does then a ratchet mechanism will adjust the brake to compensate for the wear.
Should the person have a heavy /strong hand the brake will go to its max braking power ie 100%
Any wear will be compensated for the ratchet system and return the brake pressure usually applied by the user\ and return to 100% braking power.
If the person is disabled and has a very weak hand grip the brake will still give 100% power and if the ratchet has to compensate then it will still give the rider the same braking power for the same hand pressure.
Should a strong person use the vehicle and the applied pressure for max braking is too high for a weaker person then a simple push of a button on the brake system can restore the braking application pressure to the next persons liking.
