LONDON: Britain's defence intelligence chiefs have come up with a detailed scientific explanation to solve the mystery of unidentified flying objects.

After a four-year inquiry, they have concluded that most UFO sightings can be explained by a little-understood atmospheric phenomenon.

Defence Intelligence Staff scientists describe how glowing "plasmas" of gas are created by charges of electricity. Airflows then sculpt the plasmas into aerodynamic shapes which appear to fly at extraordinary speeds through the sky.

Their report is emphatic that UFOs do not come from alien civilisations or hostile powers, but equally it does not dismiss those who claim to have seen them as fantasists or hoaxers.

Instead, the scientists say such plasmas can play tricks on the mind, creating vivid impressions.

They note that "local (electromagnetic) fields ... have been medically proven to cause responses in the temporal lobes of the brain".

As a result, UFO witnesses may suffer from "extended memory retention and repeat experiences" induced by the plasmas.

Their report says that, though UFOs have "defied credible description" as to their cause, they are confident they now have "a reasonably justified explanation".

It goes on to recommend that the findings on UFOs - of which more than 100 are sighted in most years - could be developed for "novel military applications", adding that Russia is already investigating such weapons.

The report has been released under the Freedom of Information Act following an application by David Clarke, a lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, and Gary Anthony, a fellow researcher.

The pair will give a presentation on the results this week.

 My thoughts entirely.
I saw one in 1947 and it was a light that appeared to zig zag across the sky.
But what I actually saw was a light that was ‘barrel rolling’ across the sky and thus it was obeying natural  forces.
The majority of the observations  can be explained by intense magnetic fields and plasma.

And here is the clincher to the alien theory   no sighting has ever shown anything in the way of intelligence other than the imagined thoughts of the observer.

A close encounter  with an intense magnetic field can have unusual effects on the mind( used in mental patients to calm their thoughts)

It is strange that no observation contains any original information that could not come from earth’
A sort of cumulative effect.  One person says they  saw  large eyed critter and the next person  etc.,  like the whisper  pass it on game,

If we cut out all the  speculation and try some real research we might learn some thing.
One thing that could be tried is to find  witnesses that claim to have seen  a ufo and heard a humming sound.
If in America they observed a 60 cycle hum ( local power supply is 60 cycles per second) and if in say new Zealand where the local supply is 50 cycles the observed  hum is also 50 cycles then this would prove that the ufo is has a very strong magnetic field  reacting with the local power supply.

Let us imagine that an intensely magnetic star maybe intensely cold and although small in size has a magnetic field the which we could only dream of.
In this world gravity would be minor and magnetism great.
If an ‘entity’ of some sort not even intelligent was created by natural forces over billions of years just as life here was created on our world.
This entity could harness the magnetic field being of magnetic properties itself.
By generating an opposite field it could live any where in a 3-dimension world like or fish do today.
They may have a perpetual life and so could travel many light years in time /distance to visit planets that might have interesting environment.
So this entity could hover with uncertainty in the barely magnetic ground  and the earths magnetic field to hover and accelerate.
However to escape the earth they have to find somewhere they can accelerate to immense speeds to escape. the earth.
Along comes a piece of ground that the magnetic repelling entity finds interesting it is a field of long stalked plants that have a conductive stem and heaps of them. So by generating an intense electric/magnetic field it can make a powerful opposite magnetic field to their own and this will accelerate them to where they want to go.
In doing so they generate a pattern   a mirror of their own generated field.
Each entity has its own field and so the crop circles are the signatures of the object.
Observation
1-- crop circles are never the same
2 --humming sound some times when close to buildings (reaction from the AC power)
3-- close encounters the humans show signs of amnesia and exposure to intense field electric or magnetic similar to what bent the crops in a field
4 --nearly all observations show no intelligence just natural reactions 
5 --intense acceleration showing ether no mass or the entire molecules structure is equally accelerated much like a steel plate attracted to a magnetic pole
6-- majority of the observations have the appearance and reaction of a sort of plasma
