Years ago I made a model boat it was built of light weight cedar using the clinker sort of construction.
Well the boat was about a meter long and I then spent 3 months on inventing the mechanics to make two 6 inch high robotic men row the boat.
All the mechanics are under the seats and with some 5 separate mobile joints in each arm and a body that sort of flops around almost randomly the total effect is of two hard working men rowing an attractive clinker boat just one meter long.
For some 10 years the local ponds of lakes were used to float it, and many a person was amazed at the realism of the remote controlled boat and hard working men.
So one day I was off by myself to see an aero plane display called ‘wings and wheels’ and as the venue had a lovely mountain sort of lake I took my favorite model radio controlled boat.
Found a camping ground near the lake and parked the camper van `there where I spent the night.
Never a person to want much sleep I was up just as dawn was breaking and looked out at the lovely scene of a misty morning lake that was so pretty in the breaking dawn.
Well this was just too much of a temptation and as first light I had the model boat ready and off the two men rowed out into the lake.
Such a pretty sight as the two rowers made pretty ripples on the perfectly calm lake and with the banks of mist floating around I was really enjoying the perfect scene.
Just then a bank of mist obscured the rowing men and so I turned them around and rowed as quickly as possible out of the mist,.
That’s when an early morning camper came down to the waters edge and looked out of the picture perfect scene.
He was an elderly gent and had a green scarf to keep him warm in the early morning.
As he looked across the lake he suddenly spied the two rowers in an immaculate crafted boat coming out of the mist.
Well! He bent over and supported him self with his hands on his knees and stared fixedly at the two rowers.
Just then I spied him , fair dinkum if anyone’s hair could stand on end with surprise, his would be straight up.
I immediately turned the rowers around and made them disappear into the mist.
That was when he spied me with the radio controls in my hand.
“Begorra” he said ”Am I glad to see you”
It turned out that he was an Irishman and the day was Saint Patrick’s day, the day the little men were supposed to come out of hiding.
He told me he really thought the legend was true and that he was the first person in 100 years to see two real leprechauns.

by the way they were dressed in green suits that day
