We lived near some dense bush and often the wild life would visit us so it was not unusual for small animals such as possums or wild cats to pay a scrounging visit.
We lived beside a hill that had a steep drive at the back of the house that led to the electricity station where I worked. So it was just a quick 50 meter run down the hill to home.
My wife and next door lady were having a leisurely cup of tea when they got a rather scary, visitor.
A huge rat appeared at the door and scuttled into the dining room where they were relaxing.
Well! nether lady was at all keen on large fierce looking rats especially the bush rats that really looked the tough sort.
So with very loud screams they took off out the door. And so did the rat.
Well I heard the terrifying screams from work and dashed down the hill at high speed towards the house, where I saw two freaked out ladies.
I did not hesitate to go the long way round and through the gate but took a mighty leap and even with heavy boots on vaulted over the largish hedge and landed on the lawn next to the panicked ladies and asked what was wrong.
They replied that I had just saved them, “Huh!, with my large working boots on I had landed right on top of the fleeing rat, and now a very squashed rat was under my boot.
Another incident in the same place.
There were several wild cats that would creep inside when the door was left open and steal any food.
It was around 2 am on a very hot night and the back door was left open.
I was wakened to a loud splashing sound and leapt out of bed to see what the commotion was.
It appeared to come from the bathroom and just as I got to the door something wet and slippery dashed between my legs.
Fully awake now I saw the tail end of a very wet cat making for the door.
It had apparently tried to get a drink of water from the bath which still had water in it.
The noise I heard was the cat trying to get out of the bath water
