the decorations are inlaid ebony and are set .3 mm deep so they will still be visible even if the varnish wears off in 300 years time.
at the moment the owner has strung it up as a small viola and it is so reactive that it is able to compete well with any larger viola.

Disaster   the owner came to me with the violin, the top had had a music stand fall on it so the only real solution was to copy the top and replace it.

   This is a real challenge as when you have to make a top on a finished violin there are many difficulties

(a bit like building a box then sanding the inside  with the box assembled)
   I had to copy the thicknesses as well as the exact wood.
fortunatly a left over of wood from a cello matched the original.
Its winter here now and to finalise the carving of the top i need slanting morning sunlight so this caused some delays

Kirah has had lots of play time on 'Armadilla' and is very happy, Low tones especially lovely. Lots more volume than the old school rental.
